How I felt:
Day two
of the SNAP challenge wasn’t too bad. I think that is partially because I
really didn’t vary from my normal routine. Truth be told, my lunch today was actually
healthier than my normal lunch, though I would have really enjoyed some humus
and pretzels…but I digress.
As you can see in this image, we have the very tempting
birthday cake sitting in my apartment fridge. This past weekend was my roommate’s
birthday so we have leftover cake in our apartment. As a chocoholic, t is
really difficult to not swipe a piece of the icing but I am doing everything in
my power to restrain myself!
As far as the taste of my meals go, I really did not enjoy
the chicken with the raspberry dressing. Since I normally put turkey slices or tuna
fish in my salad, I thought that the chicken would be a suitable substitute. I
was wrong. It tasted really nasty. However, it is really important that I get a
source of protein and chicken is one of the taster options, in my opinion.
Like
many people, I suffer from really bad headaches. My university is in a very temperamental
climate and it seems to enjoy raining every single day (despite it claiming to
be the sunshine state…) As you can probably guess, humidity is a huge issue on
campus and I always get headaches whenever the air pressure decides to change. This
is why it is imperative that I eat lots of proteins and drink lots of water. Now,
I usually have difficulty incorporating those items into my diet on a normal
basis, so you can imagine how challenging it is to add it into my diet for this
week.
Looking at my box of food, I am worried that I haven’t stocked enough
healthy options. I found that the unhealthy options were much cheaper in bulk
than the healthier options. That’s why I leaned towards those processed foods.
In the moment, when I was shopping, I thought I made good decisions. Now, I’m
not too sure. There is a strong likelihood that I will be using those extra
dollars to buy more fruit.
Daily Question: What have you cut out of your daily food
routine to stay on budget? (Vending machine snacks, coffee, dinners out, etc)
